This page will be expanded soon to give advice on selecting a compact camera.

My current favourite is the Panasonic LF1, which is small and light but has a good 7x zoom lens (f2.0 at the wide setting means it is good in low light) and a useful electronic viewfinder, ideal when the sun is behind you I carry mine in the Lowpro Santiago 20 case on my belt so the camera is always ready for quick deployment! For the casual user you can just leave it in iA (intelligent automatic) and the camera will almost always produce great results. For those who feel more creative there are a full range of aperture, shutter and program and manual modes as well as scene modes. The inclusion of a control ring around the lens allows easy adjustment of the settings. Few small cameras have a viewfinder theses days but it can be useful when there is bright sun behind you making the LCD screen impossible to see. It also can be helpful to use a viewfinder when shooting in low light or at maximum zoom as the camera is better stabilised when held close to your body.
